Q&A with Pay It Now’s inaugural PIN Partner ’The Aussie Butcher’ owner Reuben Sharples
1. Tell us a little about yourself
I’m the Managing Director of Aussie Butcher New Lynn, a very busy shop with 14 staff located in West Auckland, New Zealand. I’ve been in butchery for more than 29 years, starting out as an apprentice butchering home kill’s in Waipu many years ago. I’ve recently been named as one of the Hellers Sharp Blacks to compete in Sacramento in 2022 representing New Zealand at the World Butchers Challenge (WBC) which I’m extremely proud of.
2. What motivated you to want to accept cryptocurrency in your business?
I see that you need to offer a wide range of payment forms if you want your business to grow and get ahead. People have more choice than ever now days including where to shop and how they wish to pay, I just want to make sure I get my fair share by giving my customers more choice and flexibility.
3. What is it that stood out to you about PIN and the Pay It Now team?
Craig & Jit are both top blokes, I believed in what they were building. I loved the product and what it could offer me and my customers and I decided to back them fully. I have full trust in where PIN are heading and where it will end up in years to come.
4. Where do you see the crypto space heading & what benefits do you see for businesses moving forward?
I think it will become more widespread and more people will take it on. Cryptocurrency has gained so much popularity over the past few years and will form an important part of how people pay for goods and services in the future. Businesses who don’t adopt it in the near future it will be left behind.
5. What advice would you give to other owners who may also be thinking of accepting crypto in their businesses?
Take the leap, what have you got to lose? You only have to gain. At least set yourself up for the future by learning about it now while it’s still new. Work out the kinks, find out how it can benefit your business and future proof yourself now. Crypto will be everywhere soon and will be used by just about everyone. Don’t sell yourself short by limiting your customer base. Give it a go, a dollar in your pocket is a dollar that’s not in someone else’s.
6. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to Snowboard, go fishing and love a good BBQ.
7. If you could be any superhero, who would you choose and why?
Superman, because who wouldn’t want to be an original. Plus, me and Superman share a lot of similar traits – We are both ’men of steel’ (Butcher knife joke).
8. What is your favourite cut of meat?
Got to be the Angus Ribeye Steak, and juicy Tomahawks with sausages. Cooked to perfection on the Barbeque. The Aussie Butcher has the best cuts too – Come down and see me 😊
